Railway Inspection System for Metro Taipei

Metro Taipei Railway Inspection Vehicle
  • Year: 2025
  • Client: Metro Taipei
  • Country: Taiwan

In 2025, ADTS technologies were integrated into a newly commissioned inspection train operated by Metro Taipei, marking a significant upgrade in automated diagnostics for urban railway infrastructure in Taiwan.

The vehicle is equipped with a full suite of high-performance systems designed to perform real-time inspections across multiple diagnostic domains: rail, tunnel, geometry and structural integrity.

Installed Systems

  • Full Rail Profile (FRP) Measurement System
Four high-precision rail profile units mounted on a rigid frame enable transversal wear analysis and support track geometry evaluation.

  • Track Vision Inspection System (TVIS)
Combines high-definition cameras and 3D profiling to detect rail surface defects and ballast fastener conditions with exceptional clarity.

  • Tunnel Scan System (TS)
Acquires detailed tunnel imagery and performs clearance profiling while automatically detecting tunnel wall anomalies.

  • Third Rail System (3RDRS)
Measures the geometrical position of the third rail, ensuring alignment and safety compliance.

  • Corrugation System (CS)
Detects longitudinal rail defects through frequency-band analysis, highlighting early signs of rail corrugation.

  • Crack Detection System (CD)
    • Crack Eddy – Surface Crack Detection System
Identifies surface cracks on the rail head, with detection capabilities up to 5 mm in depth.
    • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) System
Detects internal rail defects using high-frequency ultrasonic waves, enabling early fault prevention.

This comprehensive integration allows Metro Taipei to achieve a higher level of diagnostic capability and maintenance planning, reducing manual inspections and improving system reliability.
