Clearance and Video Inspection System

Vehicle for Clearance and Video Inspection System
  • Year: 2025
  • Client: Metro Taipei
  • Country: Taiwan

ADTS has developed and installed a Clearance and Video Inspection System on an operational inspection vehicle of the Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA).
The system is designed to dynamically measure train clearance along the railway line, ensuring full compliance with TRA’s technical standards and clearance limits.

This non-contact, automated solution captures geometric and visual data while the train is in motion, detecting any potential obstacles or structures that exceed the allowable envelope.
It plays a crucial role in maintaining operational safety and validating infrastructure compatibility across the railway network.

Installed Systems

  • Video Inspection System
High-resolution camera with integrated day/night mode, assisted by two IR illuminators to ensure visibility in low-light or tunnel conditions.

  • Clearance Measuring Profiler
Based on the ZF9020 laser profiler, this component measures structural clearance around the vehicle and identifies intrusions into the safety envelope.

  • Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)
Mounted in the front box along with the profiler, the IMU tracks vehicle position and orientation, ensuring accurate spatial correlation of the acquired clearance data.

Key Functions

  • Dynamic, real-time clearance measurement during train movement

  • Comparison with predefined building clearance limits

  • Detection and reporting of over-limit obstructions

  • High-resolution video documentation for visual validation

  • Suitable for day/night operation
